Meta Ads vs Google Ads: which is better for your Dubai business

Meta Ads vs Google Ads: Which Is Better for Your Dubai Business?

Google Ads shows your ad to people who are already searching for what you sell. Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) shows your ad to people who are likely to be interested but aren’t searching yet. Choose Google when customers in Dubai actively look for your service, choose Meta when your offer is visual or new and you need to create demand, and use both when you want a steady flow of leads: Meta to build interest, Google to catch people when they are ready to buy.

I run both platforms for businesses in the UAE and for agencies as a white-label partner. This is how I decide where a client’s budget should go first.

What is the difference between Meta Ads and Google Ads?

The biggest difference is intent. On Google, the customer tells you what they want by typing it. On Meta, you choose who sees the ad based on location, interests, behaviour and audiences similar to your customers. Meta’s apps reach a very large audience: 3.60 billion people used at least one Meta app daily on average in June 2026, according to Meta.

When is Google Ads the better choice?

Start with Google when people already search for your service. Typical Dubai examples:

  • Urgent services: AC repair, locksmiths, car recovery, emergency clinics.
  • Considered, high-value purchases: business setup, visa services, legal advice, B2B software.
  • Local “near me” searches: salons, clinics and restaurants people look for on Google Maps.

The lead quality is usually higher because the person asked for you. The trade-off is that click prices in competitive Dubai sectors can be high. I break down the numbers in how much Google Ads costs in Dubai.

When is Meta Ads the better choice?

Start with Meta when your customers don’t search yet, or when seeing the product sells it:

  • Visual products: fashion, food, interiors, beauty.
  • New launches and offers: a new restaurant, an off-plan project, a seasonal promotion.
  • Lead generation with forms: Meta lead forms open inside Facebook and Instagram, so people can enquire without leaving the app.
  • Retargeting: showing ads to people who visited your website or watched your videos.

The trade-off is lead quality. Because the form is easy to fill in, you often get more leads but need to qualify them, for example with one or two questions on budget or timeline.

What do they cost in the UAE?

Neither platform has a fixed price; both run auctions. A few UAE-specific points matter:

  • Google: you set an average daily budget, and Google won’t charge more than 30.4 times that budget in a month.
  • Meta: advertisers billed in the UAE are charged 5% VAT unless they add a valid tax registration number to the ad account.
  • Compare the right number. Meta clicks are usually cheaper than Google clicks, but a cheap click that never becomes a customer is expensive. Compare cost per qualified lead or cost per sale.

Should you use both together?

For most businesses that can afford two channels, yes. A simple setup that works well in Dubai:

  1. Google Search for the people already looking for your service.
  2. Meta prospecting with video or carousel ads to build interest in a wider audience.
  3. Meta and Google retargeting for people who visited your site but didn’t enquire.

If budget only allows one, put it where your buyers already are. If they search, start with Google. If they don’t know they need you yet, start with Meta. Add the second channel once the first one produces leads at a cost you’re happy with.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better for a small business in Dubai?

It depends on demand. A plumber or clinic usually gets better leads from Google because people search. A café, salon or online shop often grows faster on Instagram, because the visuals do the selling.

Is Instagram part of Meta Ads?

Yes. Meta Ads Manager runs ads on Facebook, Instagram (feed, Stories and Reels), Messenger and the Audience Network from one account.

Where does TikTok fit in?

TikTok works like Meta: it reaches people while they scroll, and short video is the whole ad. It suits brands that can make native-looking videos. See my TikTok Ads service.

How long before I know which one works?

Give each platform a few weeks with conversion tracking in place. Judge them on cost per qualified lead, not clicks or likes.
